Lafayette Pool House

A major remodel of this home’s backyard included the addition of a pool house that would be also used as a home office and occasional guest house. Melanie Stewart Designs was hired to design the interior finishes and furnishings for the pool house.

We kept the palette really simple, with crisp white walls and accents of black in the penny tiles in the bathroom and metal elements in some of the furnishings. We also incorporated many natural materials like leather, wood, and a hide rug in the space.

The furniture needed to be functional as well as mobile. Since the sofa pulls out to a sleeper, the bench needed to be moveable but also sturdy enough to hold up to kids that would use the pool house. We had the Buffalo artwork commissioned by an artist-friend of the client. Overall, the goal was to create a space that was simple, yet durable enough to withstand use by kids and guests, while providing visual interest with the textures and materials.
